CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Volunteer Foreign Clerkships at the Constitutional Court of South Africa - 2026 - 2027
Applications are open for volunteer placements on the Foreign Clerks Programme at the Constitutional Court of South Africa (CCSA), as administered by the Constitutional Court Trust (CCT) in consultation with the Clerks Committee of the CCSA.

NOTRE DAME FELLOWSHIP - Call for Applications: 2026 – 2027 academic year
The purpose of the Notre Dame Fellowship is to provide an opportunity for a young South African or African lawyer who has clerked at the Constitutional Court of South Africa or the Supreme Court of Appeal, South Africa, or who is working in a civil society law organisation with a primary focus on constitutional and human rights law in South Africa, to study at Notre Dame Law School in Indiana, USA, towards a one-year graduate programme leading to a Masters of Law (LLM) degree, or an LLM in International Human Rights Law.

FRANKLIN THOMAS FELLOWSHIP - Call for Applications: 2026 – 2027 academic year
The Franklin Thomas Fellowship was established in honour of Franklin Thomas, a former President of the Ford Foundation. The fellowship is funded by monies donated by friends and colleagues of Franklin Thomas on his retirement in 1996, as well as grants from the Ford Foundation. The purpose of the Franklin Thomas fellowship is to provide an opportunity for a South African from a historically disadvantaged background who has clerked of the Constitutional Court of South Africa to study at a well-respected foreign university, usually in the United States, towards a one-year graduate programme leading to a Masters of Law (LLM) degree.

PIUS LANGA MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP - CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2026 - 2027
The Pius Langa Memorial Fellowship at UCL was established in 2021 in honour of Chief Justice Pius Langa. The purpose of this fellowship is to provide an opportunity for an exceptional early career lawyer from Africa who has clerked at the Constitutional Court of South Africa, or worked at a South African NGO on a legal programme focused on constitutional and human rights law, to study at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom on a one-year graduate programme leading to a Masters of Law (LLM) degree

The Constitutional Court Trust has recently awarded fellowships for the 2025 - 2026 academic year.The Pius Langa Memorial Fellowship, funded by the South African Constitutional Court Trust - United Kingdom, was established in 2021 to provide one early career lawyer who has clerked at the Constitutional Court or is working in civil society in South Africa to study towards an LLM at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom, one of the top-ranked universities in the world.

Announcing the Franklin Thomas Fellow for 2025-26, Zolile Shude
The Constitutional Court Trust has recently awarded fellowships for the 2025 - 2026 academic year. Zolile Shude, current clerk to Justice Theron, has been awarded the Thomas Franklin Fellowship.The Franklin Thomas Fellowship, funded by the Ford Foundation in honour of their first Black president, Franklin Thomas, is intended to benefit promising young Black South Africans who have clerked at the Constitutional Court of South Africa by providing them with the opportunity to study towards a one-year LLM at a well-respected law school in the USA.
PIUS LANGA MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP - CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2025 - 2026
The Pius Langa Memorial Fellowship is intended to benefit young lawyers in South Africa committed to forwarding constitutional and human rights law in South Africa and / or Africa. Named in honour of the former Chief Justice and launched in 2021, this fellowship will afford one early career lawyer per year the opportunity to study towards a LLM at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom, one of the top ranked universities in the world.
